Learn how to properly clean and store your brown contact lenses, including VENICOL and Diva lenses, to keep them comfortable and safe.
Quick answer
Clean VENICOL and Diva brown contact lenses daily with a fresh multipurpose solution, never water or saliva, and store them in a clean case replaced monthly.
Why brown lenses need extra care
Brown contact lenses use embedded color pigments that can attract deposits if not cleaned thoroughly. Both VENICOL and Diva lenses have a smooth surface when new, but protein buildup over time can reduce comfort and clarity if you skip the rub step.
Choosing the right solution
Always use a multipurpose solution designed for soft contact lenses. Avoid hydrogen peroxide systems unless you follow the full neutralization cycle. Saline or rewetting drops are not cleaners—they cannot disinfect your brown lenses.
Daily brown lens care routine
- Wash and dry your hands: Use fragrance-free soap and a lint-free towel. Oils or lotions on your fingers can transfer to the lens surface and cause blurry vision. Never use moisturizing soap—it leaves a film.
- Rub the lens for 20 seconds: Place the lens in your palm, add a few drops of fresh solution, and rub gently with your fingertip in a back-and-forth motion. This dislodges protein and lipid deposits that rinsing alone misses. Skipping the rub is the most common cause of discomfort.
- Rinse thoroughly: Hold the lens in the basket of your case and stream fresh solution over both sides. Do not use tap water—it contains microorganisms that can cause serious eye infections. Water is not a substitute for contact lens solution.
- Store in fresh solution: Fill your case with new solution—never top off old liquid. Close the case tightly and let the lenses soak for at least 6 hours to disinfect. Old solution loses its cleaning power and breeds bacteria.
- Clean and air-dry the case: Empty the case, rinse it with fresh solution, and leave it open to dry on a clean tissue. Replace the case every 30 days. A dirty case recontaminates your lenses overnight.
